One rifle I was excited to get in for the competition was the Sig Sauer MCX-Spear LT. This is essentially a modified civilian version of their Military XM5 rifle that was chosen in the recent NGSW program. First impressions were it was just plain sexy, just as you would expect from Sig Sauer.  The gun is based on its predecessor, the MCX Virtus, and Sig Sauer worked to reduce the weight of the rifle back to the original MCX without losing rigidity and accuracy. This was accomplished by creating a lightened handguard with attachment screws for additional rigidity and a lightened profile barrel with improved processes to increase accuracy to a new standard while reducing weight. Other features of the MCX Spear LT are its ambidextrous catch and release on its lower, coyote anodized finish, minimalist folding stock and AR-15-style trigger compatibility. Sig Sauer was kind enough to include a Tango 6 1-6X24MM FFP optic, which made it a fantastic package. Yes, it was fun to shoot.
