The first-place finisher was the hands-down favorite among the evaluators. With its carbon-fiber-wrapped Proof Research barrel, the Zev Technologies AR-15 Billet Rifle provided the best accuracy of the test rifles, with consistent 0.5- to 0.7-inch groups at 100 yards. The recoil was practically nonexistent while the muzzle blast was manageable. This rifle is also just about as ambidextrous as an AR can get, as the mag release, bolt release, safety and charging handle are each designed for left- and right-handed shooters. The fit and finish were also excellent. The trigger is a specially made AR Gold unit with a flat face and a sniper gray finish. The Superlative Arms adjustable gas block provided fine tuning where needed. The rifle also functioned flawlessly while being well balanced, and everyone enjoyed shooting it. The AR-15 Billet Rifle might be one of the more expensive rifles we tested, but Zev has provided a great deal of value for the money, and two of the evaluators asked if they could buy it after the test. That’s high praise.
