The last two contestants in our review are competition-ready race guns that take two time- and battle-proven platforms to the zenith of their potential. The Beretta 92X Performance and the CZ Shadow 2 Optics Ready are both DA/SA steel-framed pistols with the extra weight assisting with the recoil mitigation that’s needed for fast follow-up shots during competition. While the Shadow 2 has long been able to be carried cocked and locked like a 1911, this capability is not pro forma for the Beretta 92 series of pistols.
With aesthetics, accuracy, reliability, recoil control and its trigger as its highest scoring criteria, the CZ Shadow 2 OR had it all when it came to the most important aspects of a top-tier shooter. Throw in other relevant factors like the phenomenal ergonomics, extremely low bore axis, the 19-round magazines and an optics-ready slide, and there’s no question you’ve got a world-class pistol on your hands. There’s little wonder why it dominates on the competitive circuit these days.
