The next batter up was the FN 502. I credit FN with essentially developing a new category of .22 pistols—basically full-size guns that match their larger-caliber counterparts. This allows for more affordable and less fatiguing training. The 502 was also one of the first slide-mounted, optics-ready rimfire handgun. The gun has great ergonomics, good balance and ambidextrous controls, which are a nod to the FN 502’s bigger brother, the FN 509. The gun feels excellent in hand and is reminiscent of any full-size duty gun. FN has done a great job at giving us a pistol with all the feel and function of a full-sized gun, chambered in .22 LR. It was one of my favorite guns in the mix and I was not happy when the day came to ship it back.

The competition between pistols was very tight, to say the least. When the last calculation was complete the scores showed this year’s winner was the FN 502. This pistol gave us performance, good price and value. While the competition was tough, it was my personal favorite pistol this year, as well.
