Love was in the air as Terrill took his time getting to know the new Mossberg MC1sc. Except for the Kimber EVO SP (CS), the Mossberg offering drew more comments from him than any other pistol about aesthetics and ergonomics. He was smitten with the flat trigger and thoroughly enamored with the grip texturing.

Mossberg shocked the gun industry with its first pistol in 100 years, but the company definitely knocked it out of the park. Another striker-fired entry, the MC1sc is a subcompact in the same size range as the Glock 43. In fact, the MC1sc will work with G43 magazines—a big bonus for G43 shooters with extra mags.

Everything you would want in a subcompact is present in the Mossberg. It has cross-angle cocking serrations at the front and rear, a tough-as-nails DLC finish, splendid texturing and ergonomics that just won’t quit. It ships with two Clear-Count transparent polymer magazines. One holds six rounds, while the other is a seven-rounder with an extended baseplate.

The entire pistol has that sought-after “soap bar” feel and finish, making for a clean and trouble-free draw. While MC1sc we reviewed did not have a manual safety, there is such a model available for people like my writing partner. The sights on the review pistol were a standard three-white-dot affair and quite serviceable out of the box, but the dovetails are compatible with Sig #8 sights for those who wish to add aftermarket alternatives.

The MC1sc’s real claim to fame is its patent-pending Safe Takedown System. It allows the user to disassemble the pistol and remove the striker without having to pull the trigger. This is a definite feature upgrade for safe handling and cleaning.

Having written another article on this pistol, I’ve spent a good amount of time with it and have now tested it with over 12 types of ammunition. The MC1sc is an accurate shooting machine. It never bobbled or had a single misstep in all that time. For me, the trigger is a little too Glock-ish in operation, but the flat and relatively wide trigger shoe definitely helps with the sensation. Other than that, the MC1sc is a superb rendition of a modern, compact fighting pistol at a modest MSRP of only $421.
