First up was the only pistol in this review not chambered in 9mm. The Ruger-57 was designed as an alternative to the FN Five-seveN which fires the 5.7x28mm round. Ruger’s offering is a fairly sizeable package, though it comes in around half the price of FN’s pistol. Hosting 20-round magazines, the Ruger-57 uses an internal hammer and it includes an external thumb safety for an extra level of protection. Accessories can be mounted to the Picatinny rail, and the slide is drilled and tapped for the addition of optics. A fiber-optic front sight rounds out the package in combination with a fully adjustable rear sight.
The Ruger-57 was easily the most fun to shoot that day. Everyone liked seeing big fireballs with almost no recoil. Plus the 20-round magazines were fast and easy to load for quick turnarounds on the line, though the 5.7x28mm ammo isn’t the cheapest on the market. The fiber-optic sight was very easy to acquire and the accuracy was like shooting a laser. In fact, when asked which gun they would choose to do everything from concealed carry to home defense, Lincoln chose the Ruger-57 for its light weight and capacity.
