The P365X Macro jumped out front in the micro-compact niche with a class-leading capacity of 17+1 rounds.”

Sig Sauer has been an innovative force in the market the past few years but it was the game-changing upgrade to the new P365X Macro that sealed the deal. Yes, that’s right. There’s now a P365-series pistol with an actual Picatinny rail and not some proprietary abomination that shakes its fist at the gods of the aftermarket. Sorry, but if you can’t take a jab at the winner, then who can you jab?

No, the P365X Macro jumped out front in the micro-compact niche with a class-leading capacity of 17+1 rounds. This sort of begs the question whether the P365X Macro is still classified as a micro-compact or not. Classification notwithstanding, the P365X Macro still retains the slim, inch-wide form factor of the original while packing in two more rounds than a Glock 19 in a pistol that’s only 0.16 inches taller than the G19.

There’s some real voodoo happening on the part of the engineers who have to get more vertical with the magazine design in the same space, yet still keep the pistol extremely concealable. But even that’s not the enhancement that made the P365X Macro what our evaluator, Brad, called the “Pistol of the Year.”

It was the integrated compensator machined into the slide that helps reduce muzzle flip pretty significantly. During our trials, the P365X Macro shot incredibly flat, allowing us to stay on target easily for tighter groups at a fast pace. On top of that, the pistol also seemed to soak up the recoil shock much better than the similarly sized Hellcat Pro.

My only grievance with the P365 platform is the trigger. No, it’s not a heavy pull and it does what it’s supposed to do, but I wish the break was just a bit snappier, crisper and more positive. It feels a little anemic to me with its underwhelming cluck of a trigger break, but hey, it gets the job done. It also didn’t detract from the pistol’s fantastic overall performance on the line.

The P365X Macro sports front and rear slide serrations, a Nitron finish, and the grip texturing is nicely done as well. With its easy-to-use controls, Sig’s superb X-Ray3 day/night sights and a milled slide to mount your favorite red-dot, the P365X Macro is the complete package for an extremely capable carry pistol. And did I mention that fresh and sexy Picatinny rail?
