When the FBI Hostage Rescue Team sought a new pistol, they collaborated with Springfield Armory, resulting in the TRP (Tactical Response Pistol). This pistol set the standard for the performance and features expected from a modern, hard-use 1911. Drawing inspiration from that collaboration, Springfield Armory developed the TRP to match the performance of the FBI’s custom pistol within the semi-custom category. After its launch, the TRP quickly gained legendary status among serious shooters, prompting many to wonder if improvements could be made. Springfield Armory embraced that challenge and released the new Springfield Armory TRP AOS 1911.
Now, the slim profile of the 1911 TRP boasts a lightweight aluminum Carry Contour frame and a 4.25” barrel. Finished in Coyote Brown Cerakote, the bobbed section of the frame minimizes potential printing while ensuring a comfortable grip. The TRP offers features typically reserved for custom firearms, including 20 line-per-inch (LPI) checkering for a secure grip and top slide serrations that reduce glare and enhance sight alignment. With the addition of the Agency Optic System (AOS), the TRP accommodates various popular optics, such as RMR, Shield, Delta Point Pro, and Docter. Each AOS plate integrates a black serrated rear sight, guaranteeing optimal optic height and an intuitive sight picture for visible co-witnessing in nearly all configurations.
