Springfield Armory’s Tactical Response Pistols trace their lineage back to 1998 when the FBI’s elite Hostage Rescue Team adopted the Professional. Built in Springfield Armory’s Custom Shop these pistols were virtually hand built for the FBI operators to rigorous material and performance parameters. Springfield Armory’s TRP line was developed to bring consumers a comparable production gun without the hefty government-paid price tag.
But savvy 1911 devotees won’t find any corners cut with the new TRPs. Springfield Armory uses forged carbon frames and slides for a long service life. Our test sample, a full-size TRP chambered in .45 ACP has a host of upgrades to make the pistol serviceable for the modern warrior.

While retaining the classic 1911 lines the TRP also features things like extended ambi-thumb safeties, a high sweep beavertail, a detachable 2-piece mag well funnel and a light rail.
Springfield Armory’s newest TRP also boasts an Agency Optics System (AOS) that allows users to mount today’s most popular red dots. Purchasers will receive the gun with a cover plate that also possesses a drift adjustable rear sight along with a coupon for buying an AOS plate of their choice for a reduced price of $49 (down from the $129 price).
My test sample produced an aggregate group size of just 1.38” at 25-yards and possesses flawless reliability. Boasting many custom features and upgrades the Springfield Armory TRP is where those looking for a serious 1911 should begin their search!
