Smith & Wesson has once again introduced an all-new competition-ready pistol you can take from the gun store to a competition without any modifications or aftermarket accessories needed. The new Spec Series V pistol is tricked out with a fluted threaded barrel with a Strike Industries compensator installed from the factory. The compensator paired with the weight of the steel frame makes the felt recoil on this pistol a joke. With slower velocity ammunition, you hardly have any muzzle rise from the gun. The ergonomics are also impressive, featuring a more natural grip angle, enhanced texturing on the grip, and four interchangeable palm swell grip inserts to accommodate any hand size. The flat-faced trigger is Performance Center tuned, but could have slightly less travel and a somewhat lighter pull weight for more advanced shooters. The accuracy test I performed didn’t yield the best results, but this could be due to the plastic optic plates that come with the gun, rather than using metal material. Overall, the price point for the value is excellent, considering it comes with a flared magwell, three 23-round capacity magazines, co-witness iron sights, and doesn’t require any modifications to give you a competitive edge.
