Smith & Wesson has once again introduced an all-new competition-ready pistol you can take from the gun store to a competition without any modifications or aftermarket accessories needed. The new Spec Series V pistol is tricked out with a fluted threaded barrel with a Strike Industries compensator installed from the factory. The compensator paired with the weight of the steel frame makes the felt recoil on this pistol a joke. With slower velocity ammunition, you hardly have any muzzle rise from the gun. The ergonomics are also impressive, featuring a more natural grip angle, enhanced texturing on the grip, and four interchangeable palm swell grip inserts to accommodate any hand size. The flat-faced trigger is Performance Center tuned, but could have slightly less travel and a somewhat lighter pull weight for more advanced shooters. The accuracy test I performed didn’t yield the best results, but this could be due to the plastic optic plates that come with the gun, rather than using metal material. Overall, the price point for the value is excellent, considering it comes with a flared magwell, three 23-round capacity magazines, co-witness iron sights, and doesn’t require any modifications to give you a competitive edge.

Wife is an M&P Fan Girl and wanted one of these for doing classes at Gunsite Academy. Could not find one in a wholesaler so had to go through a retail dealer. Had a couple failures to extract in the first magazine after that never missed a beat. Have around 400 rounds through it as of today. Very flat shooting with good break and pull on the trigger. The reset however is kind of long and does not really have a good feel when it sets. Shot failure drills at five yards and did some work at 100 yards also. Gun is very accurate. Was easy to mount the Holosun 407 on with the supplied fillers. With the magazine funnel our Tyrant equipped M&P magazines do not work although standard 17 rounders work fine. It comes with three 21 rounders and I have a couple more coming this week. Blue finish on the barrel wore through quickly but I suspect no finish would survive very long on there. So far the gun has exceeded our expectations. We have classes in March of 2026 at Gunsite so should get a good torture test then
