Last year Taurus introduced the Deputy, a single action revolver designed to give shooters the flavor of the original Colt Peacemaker but with some important updates. A transfer bar safety was included to allow shooters to safely carry the gun fully loaded with 6 rounds. Taurus also redesigned the grip frame as a one-piece part, machined from steel for a lifetime of rugged service.
I ordered a Deputy chambered in .45 Colt with a 4.75” barrel for a one-day event at Gunsite where I fired over 300-rounds in a single day. The gun performed flawlessly during range exercises, field courses and even a run through one of Gunsite’s notorious shoot houses. Fired rounds ejected effortlessly and new rounds chambered easily.

Accuracy testing proved the Deputy to be a sharpshooter with the average group size of 5 ammunitions to be just 1.5” at 15-yards. The Deputy’s clear fixed sights and crisp 2.3-pound trigger accounts for much of the gun’s accuracy.
If you’re looking for an affordable single-action revolver that will stand up to a lot of hard use the Taurus Deputy is definitely worth a look! Available in .357 magnum and .45 Colt (tested) the Deputy is also available with 4.75” and 5.50” barrels. Learn more about this single action at www.taurususa.com.
