Adding to the standing-room-only crowd of striker-fired pistols, the new Taurus G3 brings its own spin on value by offering a full complement of features for a bargain-basement price of just $345. Despite Taurus classifying it as “full-sized,” the G3 is similarly dimensionally to G19, though one variant ships with a 17-round magazine and another with a 15-rounder. The first feature that popped out at me was the phenomenal grip texturing, with the same feel and traction as skateboard tape. In addition, the frame offers thumb shelves on both sides for increased control as well as memory pads above the triggerguard for the index finger.
Another standout feature is the G3’s restrike capability. Unlike most striker-fired pistols, the G3’s slide does not have to be cycled for another trigger pull. The trigger feels a little like that of a DA revolver, though lighter and considerably better. In fact, the average pull weight registered only 5.3 pounds before the break.

Despite its budget price point, the G3 doesn’t skimp on commonly sought-after features, including front and rear cocking serrations, a beveled slide and a Picatinny rail for mounting accessories. There’s nothing missing from the G3 that you would find on standard pistols selling for much more. There’s even a 1911-style safety for those who want the extra level of security. The three-white-dot sights are typical, and there are no interchangeable backstraps. But considering the price and all the rave reviews, the G3 should be a definite consideration for those looking to get the most value for their dollars.
