Wilson Combat’s new SFT9 features a Commander-size slide and compact size frame yet boasts a capacity of 15+1 9mm rounds. Its solid body frame is machined from aluminum and given Wilson Combat’s TRAK texturing for a secure firing grip without being abrasive. It possesses excellent ergonomics, and the curve of the backstrap forces the shooter’s hand up into the beavertail’s tang. And, while it does have a beavertail it does not have a grip safety and there’s no worry about using a high thumb grip and not disengaging it.

Wilson Combat uses their tough Bullet Proof throughout the gun including the single side thumb safety, concealment hammer and magazine release. A stainless steel match-grade barrel is used on the SFT9, along with a traditional bushing. Wilson Combat treats the slide with a DLC finish, and the aluminum frame is coated with black, non-reflective Armor-Tuff. It is a good-looking gun that felt “just right” in the hand and carried like a dream!

Its rear Battlesight is drift adjustable in its dovetail and features a deep “U” notch. Combined with its fluorescent front sight, alignment can be devastatingly fast! But the SFT9’s best feature is its trigger, and my test sample possessed the finest I have ever pressed. This made shooting the gun an absolute joy!

KC: “Excellent ergonomics—I can easily get a high thumb hold without sacrificing my grip. The sights are very fast, and I love the deep “U” notch and fiber-optic front. I also love that it is dovetailed in case I want to replace it with a tritium night sight. The trigger pull is crisp, light, and the reset is a thing of beauty! I feel like I need to have a cigarette after the hammer falls. I am partial to lightweight Commanders, so this gun is probably my favorite of the six. It is pricey, yes, but so is building a custom gun. Money well spent!”

LG: “You know, if I was kitted out in body armor, had an M4 and my buddies and I were getting ready to make a helo insertion, I’d have the Sand Hawk or Prodigy in my holster. But if I needed to make a late-night run to the convenience store for a gallon of milk, the SFT9 is the one I’d pack. It has everything you need in a carry gun. It’s lightweight, completely dehorned, has great capacity and accuracy, and a trigger that is absolute perfection!”
