Altus Shooting Solutions out of Florida is an amazing shooting venue. They host some of the nation’s best competitions for rifle and pistol, as well as host top-tier operator training that we can’t have more details on. They also make incredible rifles out of their custom shop and we have a sample on hand.

The Altus 6GT is based on an Impact Precision action, which is an action that I personally have never used prior to this rifle. Topped off with a Bartlein barrel and inside of a Foundation stock, this rifle says “proper target rifle” on it. More reminiscent of the H-S rifle thanks to the Foundation stock, it boasts some of the best components for precision shooting such as a TriggerTech Diamond Trigger and APA brake, all put together by their more-than-capable gunsmith.

While we don’t take into account chambering as a plus or minus, this rifle is chambered in 6GT, which is the top of the heap in PRS-style competition right now. It’s a beautiful rifle with high-level capability and falls in the custom category with two others in this group. Could it be the best?

There’s so much right with the Altus 6GT. It has an amazing Impact Precision 737 action, Bartlein Barrel and wonderful Foundation stock, all topped off with an APA brake and a TriggerTech trigger. You’re hard-pressed to build something with better components.

The Altus got high marks in pretty much every category except modularity. And it’s not that it isn’t modular per se, because it does have an Arca rail with R-Lok. If it had interchangeable barrels, it would make up for the parts missing on the sides of the forend.

The Altus rifle is a proper modern-day race gun with the old-stock feel. It’s heavy and accurate, and while we put no emphasis on caliber, it’s a real pleasure to shoot in 6 GT. While the 6GT is new to the factory load arena, the Hornady and Eagle Eye ammo both delivered sub-half-MOA with a 0.3-inch group from the Eagle Eye 105’s.

The Altus is a rifle that makes you feel confident when you’re behind it. Everything is in place, and it functions smoothly, flawlessly and free of drama. Austin felt it was a bit heavy in the front end, while David and I felt perfectly at home. This is a Top-3 finisher and it deserves it.
