Browning’s new X-Bolt Mountain Pro Long Range Burnt Bronze rose among the ranks this year. Chambered in 6.5 PRC, it sported a 26-inch barrel with an aggressive muzzle brake. It helped with recoil, but was not a favorite to shooters to either side of the bench when the Browning touched off a round.
The X-Bolt is a good hunting rifle with an attractively patterned carbon-fiber stock with accent graphics and a Cerakote Burnt Bronze finish on a stainless steel barrel and action. The spiral-fluted bolt matches the spiral-fluted and lapped heavy sporter contour barrel. A threaded muzzle wears a Recoil Hawg muzzle brake, with a thread protector included.

We liked that it included a thread protector, since unprotected hearing in hunting situations is not advised. The rifle handled and ran well, and reloading the rifle is quick and smooth. It wore good glass, with a Leupold VX-6HD 3-18×44 aboard. Among all shooters at all ranges, this rifle averaged 1.369 MOA. MSRP is $1,379.
