Heckler & Koch released the MR556 A4 rifle in 16.5-inch and 11-inch barrel versions this year. This rifle is short-stroke gas piston operated, with an adjustable gas block, allowing it to switch from suppressed to unsuppressed in seconds with no tools required. The gun is completely ambidextrous, including a right- and left-hand bolt release, magazine release, and safety selector. The charging handle is also ambidextrous with a slightly oversized handle for easy charging using one or two fingers. These ergonomics make it easy for anyone to use and allow for one-handed manipulation of the controls if needed. I tried five specific precision loads through this rifle, and all but one shot produced a group under 1 inch at 100 yards. The outlier shot a 1.19-inch group. The felt recoil was pleasant to shoot, and I attribute some of that to the heavier-grained bullets, as they shot flatter than the lighter, 55-grain and 62-grain ammunition. This rifle has already had over 3,000 rounds fired through it without a single malfunction from the gun or the magazines used. The price tag is what you’d expect from an HK rifle, but the value of the gun is hard to find from any other manufacturer.
