The Savage Arms MSR-15 Competition fell within a point of the winner. Built for the 3-Gun world, it’s light, accurate and, for me, felt like the softest-shooting rifle we tested. Proof Research provides the .223 Wylde barrel. Measuring 18 inches long, it is specifically made for Savage using a custom-length gas system as well as an adjustable gas block. Savage’s tunable muzzle brake also makes it easy for shooters to tune the gun to their preferred ammo. The non-reciprocating, left-side charging handle is fast when needed without getting in the way. The gun still has the standard charging handle on top, however, along with ambidextrous controls, a two-stage match trigger and a Hogue grip. The red accents make for a nice look on what is essentially a custom-grade rifle from a well-known manufacturer.
