One rifle I was excited to get in for the competition was the Sig Sauer MCX-Spear LT. This is essentially a modified civilian version of their Military XM5 rifle that was chosen in the recent NGSW program. First impressions were it was just plain sexy, just as you would expect from Sig Sauer. The gun is based on its predecessor, the MCX Virtus, and Sig Sauer worked to reduce the weight of the rifle back to the original MCX without losing rigidity and accuracy. This was accomplished by creating a lightened handguard with attachment screws for additional rigidity and a lightened profile barrel with improved processes to increase accuracy to a new standard while reducing weight. Other features of the MCX Spear LT are its ambidextrous catch and release on its lower, coyote anodized finish, minimalist folding stock and AR-15-style trigger compatibility. Sig Sauer was kind enough to include a Tango 6 1-6X24MM FFP optic, which made it a fantastic package. Yes, it was fun to shoot.

A Neat AR-18 Evolution
The third generation of SIG's MCX platform is accurate, ergonomic, and very well suited to its role as a modern iteration of the AR-15 and 18 rifles. The 11.5" 5.56 version is plenty accurate, able to make consistent hits at 500 yards on C-zone steel while also able to to move seemless around close obstacles, corners, and doors. It is a excellent rifle topped with a 1-6 or a dot and magnifier. It's main detractor is the price tag, being on the higher end for 5.56 rifles. It also comes set for SIG suppressors, setting it up for other brands takes a little more effort due to the tapered barrels. Overall, excellent experience with the system.
