When the folks at Mossberg introduced the 940 series, they focused on doing everything right. They clearly wanted to address any and all critiques of the 930 series. With help from Jerry Miculek in design features, the 940 Pro Tactical easily weighed in as one of the top shotguns we tested. One review described it as “feature rich,” which was an understatement. While it only has a fiber-optic front sight, the receiver is cut for a Shield RMSc pattern micro-dot. Why doesn’t every tactical shotgun do that? It is drilled and tapped for a Picatinny rail. It comes with an oversize charging handle, oversize bolt release, 7+1 capacity, that great Mossberg ambidextrous safety and a magazine tube clamp with M-Lok mounts. It can shoot 3-inch shells and uses the Accu-Choke system. The cast, drop and length of pull are adjustable with included shims or spacers. Plus, it runs like a clock on all types of ammunition. It recoils lightly, points naturally and is simply a joy to run. Everything about the 940 Pro Tactical is a class act. One evaluator picked it as his first-choice gun for the day, and it was easy to see why.
