The Mossberg 940 Pro Tactical SPX is a purpose-built 12-gauge semi-auto available with five- or seven-shot magazine tubes. Its optic-ready receiver accepts RMSc micro-dots and includes adapter plates for RMR, Docter, and Leupold footprints Iron sights are a rear ghost ring and fiber-optic front. The new forend adds an integrated heat shield, two QD sling cups, and three M-LOK slots, plus Mossberg’s textured finish and a factory Vang Comp six-shell carrier.
Internally, a cleaner-running gas vent system, corrosion-resistant components, and nickel-boron coatings on critical parts improve reliability and reduce maintenance. Practical controls include an enlarged loading port, orange anodized follower, pinch-free elevator, oversized safety, knurled charging handle, and ergonomic bolt release. A stock spacer system adjusts length of pull from 12.5 to 14.25 inches.

On the range the 940 cycled a wide mix of 2¾” ammunition including #8 and #6 shot, 00 buck, and slugs without issue, even with mixed loads in the tube. The ghost rings proved fast and precise. Optics are easy to add with the included optics plates. Patterning showed tight, centered buck groups and excellent slug accuracy, even with decades-old Remington slugs. MSRP on the 7 shot model with basic black finish is $1,190.
