I have long been a fan of Savage Arms because the quality of the weapons they put out often exceeds similar weapons in the same price point. They work hard to make a better gun. The Renegauge Security impressed everyone. It clearly was designed to compete with the very best semi-auto shotguns made today. All parts of the gun were adjustable. It has spacers for length of pull and different cheek pieces on the Monte Carlo-style stock in case you add a red-dot sight. Chrome-plated parts and Melonite finish on the barrel are all nice features, but the heart of the gun, the D.R.I.V. (Dual Regulating Inline Valve) gas system, is what really puts this gun over the top with absolute reliability no matter whether you shoot the lowest or highest recoiling shells. The felt recoil was consistently light, and the oversize bolt-catch button and charging handle made manipulation easy. It also has ghost-ring sights, drilled and tapped receiver, M-Lok compatible magazine tube—the list of features could fill this page. The single complaint was the placement of the cross bolt safety. Like many shotguns, it sits behind the trigger and some of us find that less natural to flick off than when it sits in front. Other than that, the Renegauge Security comes remarkably close to perfect. It came in second in our review, just barely missing first place.
