Like the Stoeger P3000, the Winchester SXP Defender turned out to be a reasonably priced, great-functioning shotgun. It ran great, was a joy to shoot and quickly became a group favorite. I liked the safety placement in front of the triggerguard. It has a hard, chrome-plated bolt, chamber and bore. A TRUGLO fiber-optic sight clips onto the barrel behind the bead sight, but it worked fine and never moved. The receiver is drilled and tapped for a Picatinny rail if you want to add a red-dot sight. I would have preferred a slightly longer magazine tube for higher capacity but keeping the front end light made it point easier. What was probably most shocking was this gun had the lowest MSRP of all the guns we tested. When we voted on which shotgun was the best bang for the buck, the Winchester SXP OD Defender was the unanimous winner.
