The SXP Shadow Defender proved a nice middle of the road tactical shotgun. First, the safety is at the front of the triggerguard, where I prefer it, allowing you to keep your trigger finger extended in a relaxed position until you need to click it off. The action bar release is at the back of the triggerguard on the left side. The stock is simple and comfortable with a very solid adjustable cheek rest. I would prefer a little shorter length of pull, but again, I am vertically challenged. An ingenious slide-on system put two Picatinny rails at the end of the magazine tube, and tightening the magazine tube cap locks them up solid. The front sight is a green fiber-optic that snaps onto the barrel and is held in place by the normal front sight bead with no rear sight. Fortunately, the receiver is drilled and tapped so an aftermarket Picatinny rail can be added for a red-dot sight. We all agreed that the gun was easy to load and run, and shot well with good accuracy. The trigger was a little harder than I prefer, but overall, it is a very nice tactical shotgun at a good price point.
