Mossberg’s popular budget priced but value packed Patriot Synthetic rifle is available with carbine length, threaded, barrels for suppressed hunting (16.25 to 20 inches) scaled for eight different calibers. At a $515 MSRP, it offers an impressive list of features you wouldn’t expect at this price point including an extremely smooth operating bolt, an excellent single stage trigger that’s screwdriver adjustable from 2 to 7 pounds, a comfortable, thick, soft rubber buttplate that eats up recoil, a receiver length (6 inch) Picatinny rail, a detachable box magazine, a recessed crown to protect the rifling, and front and rear sling swivel bases. The traditionally styled stock has an integral triggerguard and is entirely synthetic, allows the barrel to free float, has a check rest, and a textured exterior with lightly stippled grip surfaces to improve your hold. Unloaded and without optics the carbine weighs just 6 pounds 3.8 ounces.

The .308 caliber model I tested with a Silencer Central Banish 30 Suppressor, a 9X magnification scope, and the trigger set to a target-rifle-like 2 pound pull, shot 100 yard, 5-shot, groups from the bench that averaged less than 1.5 inches with both Hornady Precision Hunter 178 grain ELD-X and Fiocchi Hyper Performance 150 grain BT Spitzer hunting loads. That’s very impressive from a rifle currently retailing at $402! The 16.25 inch barrel .308 Patriot Carbine fitted with an 7 inch suppressor handles like a standard 24 inch barrel full length rifle.
