Walther Arms is another company that understands comfort, performance and style, and that’s evident with the new PDP Pro SD Full-Size 4.5. A little more understated with its visual aesthetics, the PDP Pro SD still packs in the performance. Already present features on the PDP series include the fantastic ergonomics offered by the contoured grip with the tetrahedral texturing and the SuperTerrain slide serrations that provide a phenomenal gripping surface for easy slide manipulation. However, the PDP Pro SD brings even more to the table.
Standard PDP series pistols arguably have one of the very best striker-fired triggers on the market, but the Dynamic Performance Trigger on the PDP Pro SD takes it to the next level with an exquisitely crisp break right at 3.85 pounds of pressure. The Pro model also adds an aluminum magazine well to assist with faster and more confident reloads as well as aluminum base plates for its three supplied 18-round magazines.

Another “Pro” feature is the 5.1-inch threaded barrel on which I mounted an HB Industries Mini Comp as much for visual appeal as performance. A less obvious improvement is the new optics cut in the slide that offers a more robust mounting platform for your favorite red-dot. There are more channels/recesses cut into the slide to serve as recoil lugs/bosses to protect against forces and knocks from all directions.
Similar to other top-shelf pistols in this category, the PDP Pro SD includes every modern amenity available from the Picatinny accessory rail to the ambi slide stop and the American-style magazine release. In short, with the PDP Pro SD, you’ve got everything you need for competition or defense all in a package with a very modest MSRP of only $829. There’s a lot of value in the PDP Pro SD upgrades considering it only costs $130 more than the standard PDP.
