The SR1911 Competition from Ruger’s Custom Shop arrives in a rugged padded case with two magazines tuned to the gun and a certificate of authenticity signed by Ruger President and CEO Chris Killoy. The pistol features a hand-fitted slide, frame and barrel as well as precision internals. This .45 ACP SR1911 features a Koenig Shooting Sports low-mass hammer and competition sear, a precision-machined disconnector, a forged slide stop, an integral plunger tube and a hand-tuned sear spring.
Our test sample’s trigger broke cleanly at 3.9 pounds with some light take-up and no overtravel. The frame is undercut at the triggerguard, and both the frontstrap and mainspring housing are checkered.

The pistol has a two-tone look because the stainless steel frame and slide are both black nitrided, but the slide flats are polished bright and display the logos of the Ruger Custom Shop and Team Ruger Captain Doug Koenig. The slide has deep and wide chevron-style cocking serrations that are left black, and the slide’s top has been grooved to diminish glare. Ruger also includes a click-adjustable rear sight in keeping with the competition theme, and the ramped front sight has a green fiber-optic insert.
The gun’s flat-faced trigger was a joy to work with. Crisp and predictable, it just felt right, helping me produce an average group size of 0.92 inches. My best group, 0.74 inches, came with the Black Hills ammo. In short, priced at $2,299, the Ruger SR1911 Competition deserves a look from anyone looking for a dedicated competition gun.
