New for 2026, the Chiappa Rhino 60DS in .44 Magnum is built on the Chiappa L-frame platform. It has a 7075-T6 aluminum frame and barrel shroud. This barrel shroud incorporates accessory rails on the top and bottom of the huge vent rib and barrel, plus encloses the ejector rod. Inside, held by a locknut is the 6-inch steel barrel which aligns with the lower chamber of the 6-shot hexagonal steel cylinder. The front sight is red fiber-optic, and the fully adjustable rear sight is green fiber-optic. The 60DS is equipped with Hogue rubber over-molded Monogrips. It has an excellent SA and DA trigger pull, but what looks like a hammer is actually a cocking lever, as the hammer itself is internal. A red cocking indicator near the rear sight shows if the revolver is on full-cock. Overall length is 11 inches and it has an empty weight of 46.4 oz. A new feature is the finger stops on both side of the frame above the trigger. The test gun had a matte black PVD finish. During the T&E some 120 rounds of .44 Magnum defensive/hunting-type ammunition was used from five different manufacturers. From the bench at 25 yards, the best 5-shot group measured 1.15 inches. A 10-round drill using a realistic animal target was used to simulate hunting with the 60DS in heavy brush. The MSRP is $1470.00, with street pricing of $1350.00.Â
