Heritage Manufacturing has been making the Rough Rider SA sixgun since 1993. In 2005, they produced a new version in .32 H&R Magnum in several finish, barrel length and grip configurations. At some point, it was dropped from the line, but now some 21 years later, it has been resurrected. At this time, the new version is only available with a 6.5-inch barrel, a black satin finish, fixed sights, and black plastic grips with star texturing. An unusual Heritage feature is the manual safety latch enclosed in the left-side recoil shield. Flipped up, a hammer block is actuated; flipped down you are ready to fire. It must also be in the “safe” position in order to eject spent brass. During chronographing, accuracy testing, and combat shooting, some 145 rounds of 5 different .32 H&R Magnum loads were shot in the 35.6 oz. Rough Rider. The best 5-shot group measured 0.78 inches, shot SA at 15 yards from a rest. It was also used in a cowboy action shooting match. The test gun has an overall length of 11.78 inches and the MSRP is $257.99; it’s too new for a street price at this time.
