The SAR9 Sport Gen 3 pistol is an excellent entry-level handgun for people interested in competitive shooting. With an MSRP of $549.99, it’ll get you in the game without breaking the bank. Despite its price tag, it offers a lot of value for competition shooting. It is optic-ready, has a flat-faced trigger, is accurate with specific types of ammunition, and has good ergonomics. On the flip side, I wouldn’t recommend it for competition shooters who are more advanced because of the RMSc optic cut and external thumb safety. The size of RMSc optics won’t be as competitive as that of larger footprint red dot optics. Many shooting sports rulesets require an external thumb safety to be engaged if it exists on the handgun. Any fumbling or delay with disengaging the safety can cost precious time, and at a high level of competition, this can cost a shooter the difference between first and fifth place. So, depending on where you are in your competition shooting journey, this will determine if this is the right pistol for you!
