For those that want a little more from a .357 Magnum revolver and that want something that looks as good as it performs, Smith & Wesson has you covered. The new Spec Series 686 Plus is one of the company’s latest L-frame revolvers, and it packages several tactical features into a performance-oriented handgun that offers a handsome contrast been sleek design and classic nostalgia.

The seven-round Spec Series 686 Plus’ stand-out feature is the inclusion of a custom-made optic mount that hosts an Aimpoint Acro P2, an enclosed-emitter optic that’s perfect for the field by shedding moisture, dirt, dust and debris. Extras include the company’s PowerPort machined into the barrel to mitigate muzzle flip, and there’s also an extended cylinder release to facilitate extra-quick reloads. To aid in that feat, the cylinder is machine to accept moon clips that can be used to quickly load all 7 chambers at once.

Major components sport a two-tone appearance with the DLC finish on the cylinder and the Titanium Cerakote application on the barrel and frame. Rounding out the aesthetics is a classic checkered wood grip, that despite its old-world feel, looks right at home on the Spec Series 686 Plus. But the Performance Center revolver is more than just about looks. It offers the same robust quality, reliability, accuracy and overall performance you’d expect from a Smith & Wesson revolver.
