This value priced pistol has a lot more going for it than a sub-$300 retail price. Taurus expects it to appeal to the first-time gun buyer with a limited budget looking for an entry level personal defense/concealed carry gun. I expect it will have much broader appeal because it’s simply a nice handling, reliable and accurate traditional handgun without the bells & whistles (night sights, optics cuts, customizable grip frames, etc.) that have become so common on new handguns that most of us now expect these features! The fact is those features drive up production costs. The Taurus GX2 is a gun about your needs, not your wants. It comes with two thirteen round magazines, a well stippled grip with fingertip rest pad for safer handling, an accessory rail on the dust shield for a light or laser, a rudimentary loaded chamber indicator in the form of a small hole in the barrel hood, and a manually operated thumb safety that will give a lot of new shooters and concealed carriers peace of mind. Rather than go small, Taurus went medium size with GX2, sacrificing a little concealability for a 3.3 inch barrel and a lot more grip surface. That translates into a more secure hold and better control and handling than the popular and much smaller micro compacts like the SIG 365 or Springfield Armory Hellcat. I was surprised at how accurate it was too. From the bench it shot as well as many good full-size autoloaders at 25 yards, and much better than some.
