Included in the full-size category as much for its weight as its size was the Walther Arms Q4 SF. Only in a world filled with polymer pistols would I consider a steel-framed carry pistol an exotic, but that’s the world we live in now. Though, with its world-class trigger and ergonomics, it fits the bill as well. The Q4 SF is a reimaging of Walther Arms’s Q5 competition pistol for both duty and concealed carry. The sublime shooter offers a reversible mag release, an ambidextrous slide stop and rubber, wrap-around grip for outstanding control. Large, three-dot phosphorus sights get you on target fast, and the slide is intricately machined for phenomenal balance in the hand.

To be honest, the “oohhs” and “aahhs” generally came with the more expensive pistols. For example, when I asked John his thoughts after shooting the Walther Arms Q4 SF, he said, “That was f—ing awesome.” His comments centered around the minimal muzzle flip, the grip contours and the Walther Arms’s excellent trigger.
