With “black rifles” dominating the gun media of late it is easy to forget that other firearm types exist. Lever actions remain extremely popular with American hunters. A few million lever action rifles sold with sales staying steady even during this age of the MSR. With that said, Henry Repeating Arms recently upped the ante with their Lever Action Supreme Rifle (LASR) chambered in .450 Bushmaster. With the LASR, while staying true to lever action ergonomics, Henry offers a fresh take.
The LASR’s receiver is surrounded by an American Walnut buttstock and forend. Each has factory installed sling swivel studs. Iron sights are present, but the drilled and tap receiver call out for an optic. The 1:24 twist 18-inch 5/8-inch threaded barrel is free-floated. Overall length is 38-inches. The weight is a very surprising, only 6.4 pounds.

The .450 Bushmaster was specifically designed to generate stopping power at short to moderate ranges out of the AR. This same specification works great with a lever action hunting rifle as well. When Michigan and other Midwest states began amending hunting regulations to allow for straight walled rifle cartridges with maximum case length 1.80-inches the .450 Bushmaster found a home in bolt action and now lever action rifles. The .450 Bushmaster’s heavy, large-diameter bullets and moderate velocities make it well-suited for use on deer, bear, hogs, etc.
